James B. Barnes is Vice President of Gillis Gilkerson, Inc. A veteran with 34 years of experience in the construction industry, Barnes has worked for Gillis Gilkerson for the past 21 years.
When Barnes began his career at the firm, his first position was superintendent and project manager. Today, Barnes is operations manager and is responsible for the management of all employees and is the overall supervisor of all construction jobs.
Prior to his tenure with the firm, Barnes spent 15 years running his own company remodeling homes and overseeing renovations and restoration for insurance projects. Barnes attributes his success at Gillis Gilkerson to an ability to work with people from all walks of life. A 1971 graduate of Bennett High School, Barnes studied business at Chesapeake Community College.
Barnes received the Shining Star award in 2000 for his contribution to the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore. He has also been active in the Little League Board of Directors in Salisbury and served as a Little League Coach for five years.
An avid duck hunter, fisherman, and racquetball player, Barnes recently won the 50 Open State Racquetball Championship. Barnes has three grown children and resides in Salisbury with his wife Tana and four dogs and three cats.
